Educational Training
Mental Health First Aid Training for Community Members

What if you knew how to provide appropriate support and help a person secure assistance for mental health issues of concern?  Certified trainers KMHS Associate Director Beth Friedman-Darner, LASW, Lead Access Screener Kathleen Talluto, KMHS Adult Outpatient Director Kathryn Felix, MSW, and KMHS Development and Community Relations Director Rochelle Doan, MS are available to conduct the internationally recognized Mental Health First Aid Training in Kitsap County.  The training helps an individual assess a situation and connect the person in crisis to the appropriate level of care, ranging from self-help strategies to professional treatment.

"Mental Health First Aiders" learn and practice a single strategy to respond to signs of mental health concerns, such as helping a person through a panic attack, or engaging with someone who is anxious or depressed.  Useful for everyday events, the training will be especially helpful to persons working with the public - from law enforcement, to educators, to shelter workers, to banking and retail establishments.  Communities who offer this training have experienced real benefits and KMHS is pleased to be able to offer Mental Health First Aid to our residents.  Our gratitude to NAMI Kitsap County, whose generous support has helped to make Mental Health First Aid Training available to our community.
