KMHS Honors Richard LeMieux
Journey of Recovery Helps Many
March 2, 2011

Local author and advocate Richard LeMieux has recently been recognized by Kitsap Mental Health Services staff for his remarkable journey of recovery from depression, and for inspiring others in their own recovery by sharing his story. His widely read book “Breakfast At Sally’s” has already encouraged the creation of three homeless shelters across the nation and a better understanding of homelessness and extreme poverty. Referred to KMHS, Richard began his own healing journey after receiving counseling and medications to help fight his depression. He notes “They didn’t have a magic wand to fix my life, but when I walked out of their doors, I had what I needed to help me make it through that day. Everyone there offered me hope, love, compassion and understanding.” At KMHS, a large mounted photo and storyboard of Richard LeMieux at his typewriter captures the author at work, and serves as an encouragement to others that for the majority of people engaged in treatment, a return to health is possible.
