The Kitsap Mental Health Services’(KMHS) Pathways Adult Co-occurring Disorder (COD) Program has garnered top scores on a patient satisfaction survey by the Washington State Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse (DASA). The 2006 Statewide Patient Satisfaction Survey was administered by 452 DASA-certified agencies. Over 96% of KMHS clients completing the survey indicated that they were satisfied with their COD services, with nearly 56% of those saying they were “very satisfied.”
Pathways was also recognized at the December 2006 Kitsap County Treatment Conference when COD Therapist, Tom Axtelle was honored with one of the annual “Making a Difference” Awards. Axtelle was cited for his use of art as an effective therapy with COD clients.
“The Pathways Program is different from most of the DASA-certified agencies because of its ability to treat both mental illness and substance use disorders at the same time and in the same setting,” according to Program Coordinator Cheryl Mogensen. “This integrated approach is based on evidence-based practices and receives funding from the Mental Health Division as well as the Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse and the Kitsap County Board of Commissioners.”
