KMHS Presents Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders Workshop
February 20, 2008

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum (FAS) is a combination of growth deficiency, facial abnormalities and central nervous system damage. Central nervous system damage with or without facial characteristics and growth deficiency is even more common. The objective of this workshop is to teach participants about the spectrum of behavioral problems associated with the organic brain damage suffered by people from alcohol exposure in utero and how to screen and refer children to the FAS Diagnostic and Prevention Clinic for diagnosis of a fetal alcohol spectrum disorder. They will understand how to access the needs of a child affected by alcohol exposure and identify and implement appropriate interventions. This training will provide participants with the necessary tools to improve parenting, treatment plans, educational objectives and case management.

The presenter, Julie Gelo, has worked for over 12 years as a member of an interdisciplinary diagnostic team at the University of Washington. She has parented multiple children with FASD, has trained/presented to close to 20,000 people on FASD and has been a member of the National Taskforces, steering committees and expert panels on FASD.

The FASD workshop is being held on Wednesday, March 5 at the Norm Dick’s Government Center Chamber Meeting Room, 345 6th Street, Bremerton from 9:00 to 4:00. Click here for further information or to register.
