Kitsap Mental Health Services will present training on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD), including Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, March 14, 9:00am – 4:00pm at Hillcrest Assembly in Bremerton.
Carolyn Hartness, FASD educator and consultant, and a trainer with the FASD Center for Excellence, will present the training. Hartness served with the Governor’s Office of Indian Affairs assisting Washington tribes around substance abuse issues and FASD, and has worked with the FAS Diagnostic and Prevention Network at the University of Washington since its inception in the early 1990’s.
FASD includes a range of disorders, including growth deficiency, facial abnormalities and central nervous system damage. The incidence of FASD is estimated to be as high as 1.5 per 1000 births depending on the area of the country.
