For Referrers
Kitsap Mental Health Services has been supporting students with complex behavior and mental health challenges since we opened in 1978.
Currently, our Madrona Day Treatment program is approved as a Non-Public Agency by the Washington State Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction. We provide special education services to students as outlined in each child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). We offer:
- Academics
- Social skill development
- Treatment options, including individual, group and family therapy
- Referrals to KMHS and community services as needed
- Breakfast and lunch
Treatment
We offer personal, group and family therapy.
- Counselors use proven methods, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Motivational Interviewing
- We focus on building skills, such as self-awareness, self-control, social understanding, relationship building, and responsible decision-making
- We coordinate with caregivers and outside therapists
- We provide referrals to services as needed
Academics
Learning is tailored to each student’s needs, taking into account emotional and behavioral challenges. We offer students instruction at their level in all subjects. That includes:
- Math
- Language arts
- Science
- Social studies
- Physical education
Learners enter Madrona with an IEP from their school district. Madrona staff update the IEP based on ongoing assessments of each student’s needs and abilities. They also include strategies and progress reports to support the student’s return to their home school.
Testing
All learners take state academic tests unless their IEP says otherwise. School districts provide the needed materials. State testing happens in May.
Madrona works closely with each learner’s school district to make sure all IEP, re-evaluation, and testing deadlines meet state and federal laws.
Return to Home District
We begin planning a student’s return to their home district as soon as they enroll at Madrona. That includes:
- Working with staff at the student’s home district to identify skills the learner needs to improve
- Providing regular progress reports to the student’s home district
