About Us

Offering Hope Since 1978

Kitsap Mental Health Services (KMHS) has been Kitsap County’s behavioral health expert since 1978, providing a full range of services for children, adults and families. We are a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.

We offer hope and healing to more than 6,000 clients each year. With more than 600 caring staff members, we are one of the county’s largest healthcare providers.

KMHS primarily serves clients who qualify for Medicaid, but we don’t turn anyone away. If you feel you could benefit from mental health support, we can help you take the first steps toward recovery regardless of your insurance status or ability to pay.

We know that mental illness is treatable, and that people can and do recover. That’s why hope lives here.

Federally Certified for Quality

In 2023, KMHS became a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC). That means we’ve met a federal standard for quality and that we’re committed to continuous improvement. As a CCBHC, we are working to:

  • Expand access to high-quality care
  • Be responsive to community needs
  • Coordinate mental and physical health care
  • Give clients and their families a voice

CCBHCs are proven to reduce emergency room visits and homelessness. They also help keep people with serious mental illness out of jail.
