School Programs
School districts throughout Kitsap County contract with KMHS to provide mental health services in their schools. These partnerships help students get the therapeutic support they need while allowing schools to focus on what they do best – educating kids.
Sequoia
KMHS and the Bremerton School District have partnered for more than a decade to provide behavioral support to elementary students. Students attend both their general education classroom and a self-contained Sequoia classroom. KMHS behavioral interventionists and counselors work with teachers and other school staff to help children develop skills to be successful.
The student’s IEP team together with the district’s special education department make referrals and placements into the program.
Shield Programs
This partnership with the Bremerton School District provides middle school and high school students with therapeutic support inside Shield classrooms. A KMHS therapist can meet with students already enrolled in the Shield program or assist with crisis situations anywhere in the building.
School-Based Clinicians
KMHS has agreements with several Kitsap elementary schools to place therapists in the schools. These therapists support referred students on-site, regardless of insurance. They also work with district employees to offer therapeutic student groups.
In-School Support Team
Collaborative Clinical Support Team (CCST) is for students experiencing significant struggles that are keeping them from being successful at school. The care team – a therapist, care coordinator and peer support specialist – work with students and their families to:
- Understand what’s keeping the student from being successful
- Identify potential solutions
In addition to brief therapy, the team may help students access needed services or connect them with other community resources. Kitsap County school districts can refer students directly to CCST.
