When Chloe, a KMHS Peer Support Specialist, came up with an idea to have bags packed with items such as emergency tents, hygiene products, emergency sleeping bags, socks, gloves, tarps, and other miscellaneous items to help persons we serve who are at risk of facing the elements this winter, she had no idea just how quickly staff and community would rally to support the effort. Staff quickly assembled forty of these compact waterproof outdoor safety and survival kits and estimate about 20 kits a month are needed. While we make every attempt to secure shelter and housing for persons prior to discharge, kits are available to be used by persons exiting our various 24/7 facility-based services who may choose to discharge to homelessness. Each kit costs approximately $50. Click here if you would like to financially support this effort.
